About the Organisation
The Bergerie Nationale is one of the 3 French Ministry of Agriculture’s resource centres, focused on management of periurban areas, sustainable agriculture and environmental education through agriculture. Three departments of BN are involved in this territorial approach: Management of periurban areas (landscape, land use, spatial planning, natural zones, functions of agriculture and forest in urban and periurban areas) ; Local development ; Relationship between agriculture and environment.
The BN also manages a farm (400 hectares, sheep and cow livestock, organic poultry unit). This farm is one of the 17 experimental farms the ministry of agriculture has settled up as a demonstration towards sustainable agriculture. It also plays an important rule as a training and demonstration tool for various publics.
