ITDG United Kingdom
Intermediate Technology Development Group

About the Organisation
ITDG is an international non-governmental organisation which specialises in helping people to use technology for Practical Answers to Poverty. It was founded in 1966 by the radical economist Dr EF Schumacher to prove that his philosophy of ‘Small is Beautiful’ could bring real and sustainable improvements to people’s lives.
ITDG works directly in four regions of the developing world - Latin America, East Africa, Southern Africa and South Asia. ITDG works with poor communities to develop appropriate technologies in food production, agroprocessing, energy, transport, small enterprise development, small-scale mining and disaster mitigation. Lessons from ITDG’s grassroots experience are spread through consultancy services, publishing activities, education, policy and research, and through an international technical enquiries service.
